Overview
“I suppose I got to marry somebody – all girls do…”
Based on a sensational 1920s murder trial, Sophie Treadwell’s groundbreaking play Machinal follows a young American woman trapped in societal expectations. She follows the prescribed path – marriage, motherhood, and monotony – while desperately searching for a sense of freedom from her suffocating existence.
Performed by the Mountview Actor Musicianship cohort, the production featured an original score and a fresh approach to Treadwell’s classic text.
