Overview
“I suppose I got to marry somebody – all girls do…” Based on a sensational 1920s murder trial, Sophie Treadwell’s groundbreaking play Machinal follows a young American woman trapped in societal expectations. She follows the prescribed path – marriage, motherhood, and monotony while she is desperately searching for a sense of freedom from her suffocating existence. Performed by the Actor Musicianship cohort, this production features an original score and a fresh approach to Treadwell’s powerful exploration of society and human dignity.
